More bushels more efficiently in Minnesota

01/15/2026

Joe Schimerowski grew up walking Minnesota corn fields with his father and learned the importance of carefully tracking successes and failures in agriculture. He brings this experience to his new role as a sales representative for Meristem Crop Performance.

“I’m really passionate about helping the dealers who join our team succeed and I’m a big believer in helping people accurately measure what they’re doing,” Schimerowski said. “If you’re not measuring what you’re doing, how are you going to improve? It is important working with Meristem dealers and their farmer customers to manage data accurately and make sure they’re making improvements each year — really comparing ROI and not just going for more bushels. We’re trying to grow more bushels more efficiently.”

Schimerowski graduated from South Dakota State University in 2016, earning a bachelor’s degree in agronomy with a minor in precision agriculture. From there he worked in seed industry sales, establishing a solid customer base in western Minnesota. At Meristem, he will be working to get the right products on the right acres.

“We have extremely variable soils here in western Minnesota, from low sticky clays to sandy hills. Finding a way to get a hybrid to perform evenly across those acres is a challenge,” he said. “We have lots of residue and less conservation tillage. With the tillage, at times we’re giving up water, which is often our limiting factor for yields. We can reduce tillage with Excavator® AMS with Cyclestrike LR while breaking down residue and making nutrients available. I think that is going to really help farms in this area.

“I also see a huge opportunity for biologicals in this market for giving farmers new options to combat problems that are taking yield away. Guard X™* is an excellent biological option for the corn rootworm problem here in western Minnesota. Prephyte ST** biofungicide is an excellent way to combat the crown rot we see in corn.”

Meristem’s patented Bio-Capsule Technologyputs these innovative products to work.

“The farmers in Minnesota face a wide range of challenges and Meristem’s industry-leading product portfolio provides the solutions they need,” said Mitch Eviston, Meristem founder and CEO. “The Bio-Capsule delivers those solutions to help farmers produce more bushels for less.”
