…Experienced Ag Professional To Serve Growers and Develop Dealers in Texas
Experienced seedsman and agribusiness professional Michael Wied has joined Meristem Crop Performance® Group, LLC (www.MeristemAg.com), one of the fastest-growing crop input suppliers in America. Wied becomes Meristem’s sales rep and dealer coach in western Texas.
“We are very excited to have Michael Wied on our growing team of all-stars,” said Mitch Eviston, Meristem Founder and CEO, in announcing the hire. “Michael’s experience with seed and farm business management, plus his desire to see farmers become more successful – all of it makes him an excellent fit to help us benefit more farmers in Texas.”
“I’m really looking forward to taking Meristem product portfolio to more fields in Texas,” said Wied. “I think the next big leap in yield and sustainability is going to come through these new biologicals.” He comes to Meristem Crop Performance from Corteva, where he was territory manager for Pioneer. Before that, he spent three years as a field rep with Americot and earlier, one year with Indigo as an account manager.
Wied grew up outside of a town called New Home, Texas, some 20 miles south of Lubbock, in the midst of cotton fields. “My father Keith took over the farm when my grandfather died,” Michael shared. “He was 18 years old at the time, so he had to learn it all early on.” Michael and his wife Alexandra live near Lubbock and have six children: Elizabeth, William, Andrew, Edward, Patrick and Madeline.
Wied earned his degree in agricultural leadership and development from Texas A&M University and then worked for Capital Farm Credit, for 11 years and became vice president. Wied is also a graduate of the Texas Grain and Feed Emerging Leadership program, which is designed to improve the leadership skills of men and women all across the Texas agribusiness landscape.
“Working on both the in-field and the finance side of farm business has opened my eyes to better understanding the different challenges that growers face as they seek to be profitable year after year,” Wied says. “Meristem’s mission of helping growers make the most of every dollar they spend fits perfectly with my own personal mission of service to agriculture.” He adds that innovation with biologicals will have a dramatic positive impact on crop production in West Texas.
“We know there’s no one-size-fits-all out here.” he explains. “These products provide more options and there’s almost always something here you can try in any given field that can bring you a better yield. I’m excited to take the Meristem portfolio to more farmers in Texas – I know they can benefit.”
Wied says Meristem’s focus on farmer success is key to the positive response he’s seem from those he’s worked with for many years. “At Meristem we are truly working to bring solutions to farmers that will save them money, and they get that. With REVLINE® HOPPER THROTTLE™ and UPSHIFT™ C we are bringing greater convenience and better results than what they currently use. My Pioneer experience really has provided a lot of insight to how these Meristem products can take growers to the next level.”
