Illinois Soybean Yield Champ Sees the REVLINE® HOPPER THROTTLE™ Difference

10/28/2023

“A consistent 3 to 4 bushel advantage with Revline® Hopper Throttle™…”

Near Gladstone, Illinois, John Torrance is harvesting the field that last year earned him the title of 2022 Illinois Soybean Yield Champion with a yield of 113.1 bu./A. This season the yield monitor is ticking along in the high 80s and into the 90s and he’s still very happy with it.

“This year we had a really hot, dry period and then we got several inches of rain all at once,” he remembers. “I’m happy with how well this crop handled all that.”

Being open-minded to new practices and paying attention to details are key to driving toward higher yields and better return on investment (ROI), Torrance says. “We brainstorm all the time over things we might do to squeeze out more profitable bushels,” he says. “Don’t be afraid to try something new.”

‘With REVLINE HOPPER THROTTLE, we’ve used it a couple of years now on 100% of our acres,” he says. “We don’t do any side-by-side checks anymore. The first time we used we saw great results — I would say it’s a consistent 3 to 4 bushel advantage with REVLINE HOPPER THROTTLE.”

Torrance pursues high yields with intensive management every year and he says that quest begins as the combine leaves the field. “Any time you’re in a high yield environment, residue is an extreme issue to deal with,” he says. “Most people wouldn’t think that soybean residue management becomes a problem, but it does.” Torrance has used EXCAVATOR® two years running on his soybeans.

“The nutrients that you get from EXCAVATOR are, I believe, something like three times more efficient than your commercial fertilizers,” he explains. “So that is a big, big deal when it comes to really driving higher yields.”
