Ag Economist and Author Jayson Lusk to Highlight Breakthrough to Excellence

06/10/2022

Jayson Lusk, Distinguished Professor and Head of the Agricultural Economics Department at Purdue University, has been confirmed as a key speaker for Meristem’s Breakthrough to Excellence Dealer Partner event at Lake Lawn Lodge in Delavan, Wisconsin August 10-12.

Lusk’s book The Food Police: A Well-Fed Manifesto about the Politics of Your Plate, is a critical account of food and agriculture economics. Following many years of studying food regulation and comparing costs and benefits of the policies in question, Lusk grew disenchanted with a movement that he feels ignores the realities facing most American consumers and farmers. In another book, Unnaturally Delicious: How Science and Technology are Serving Up Super Foods to Save the World (2016), Lusk writes about how technology and agriculture can work together to help solve the world’s largest food issues and improve our farming system. Jayson Lusk has won numerous research awards and has been interviewed in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Fox and Friends, the John Stossel Show, and Wall Street Journal Live, among others.

“A very important piece of our mission at Meristem is opening up a faster pathway to more farmers and millions of acres for new innovative technology,” said Meristem Founder and CEO in relating Lusk’s participation in the Breakthrough to Excellence event. “With the threat of global hunger increasing, we need economists like Jayson — technology advocates – challenging food elitists who would send American agriculture backwards. We are glad he will be able share his views with us.”
